Thales (6th century B.C.) was the Greek philosopher who gave birth to
scientific thought. He concentrated on the physical substance of the
world around him in order to explain the universe which, until his
revolutionary efforts, was understood in “mythological” terms.
Although he left no writings, Aristotle refers to him in his
“Metaphysics” (60 B.C.).
